I guess i could explain some of my choices here and there. It doesn't hurt anybody, and you don't have to read it unless you want to.

What is a waffleburger?
A waffleburger is very similar to a regular burger, however the sesame seed buns are replaced with waffles. I prefer potato waffles myself, but i hear sweet waffles also work well. One day i might make some interactive flash where you can make your own waffleburger and have it add up how many calories it is. But it's just one thing on a long list of things i could do.

How do you invent such a snack?
When you're a student living away from home it's important to make the most of your money. When it's running low takeaways are no longer cost effective, everything edible in the kitchen will be eaten sooner or later. If you find yourself with only a box of waffles, a box of quarter pounders and a packet of sliced cheese to live off (you're doing pretty well in student terms), you live off them, and try to be as inventive with the meal as you can.

Any regular burger can be turned into a waffleburger, just replace the buns with waffles, it's really that simple, and very tasty. Bacon waffleburgers with sliced cheese are an excellent starting point, and easy to turn into doubles. Add extra layers as you see fit. Apparently waffleburgers are also chock full of something called cholesterol, so they must be good for you.

But why use it as a URL?
I'm not sure to be honest, it's got a certain something to it. Some say that something is a heart attack. I say that makes it all the more memorable as an address.

The Site
Stylesheet Overlord

Site architecture
It's pretty simple, each main link on the navigation has its own folder. Everything refers to the central stylesheet, which is a scary place where things can go very very wrong if a slip up is made. Other than the overlord stylesheet keeping everything under control sections look after themselves independently. No clever PHP to be seen here pasting things together for the time being (other than premade wordpress codes), PHP isn't my forté, everything here was lovingly coded by hand. PHP is the next language on my list of things to learn, because it would have made part of this site SO much faster for me to code.

Navigation
How flashy is the flash navigation? I like to think it's relatively flashy in that it is of flash. It could be flashier but it's still flashed through and through. Of course there's some regular navigation underneath it, for more regular visitors... (get the flash plugin for your browser, you're missing so much!). Anyway, the background colour of the navigation and footer is currently set to change colour at midnight, (So no you're not imagining it, it really was a different colour yesterday) i might make it hourly, the internet is a fast paced place after all.

Here are the current colour associations.

DayColour
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday

You could be wondering to yourself if these days and their chosen colours reflect anything. The answer would be yes. Different colours reflect certain wavelengths of light, that's how colours work.

Resolution
The site's been designed to accommodate any screen resolution from 800*600 above. I hear people still use that. Anything below that and well, happy scrolling.

Aesthetics
The design's very simple, i'm certainly not breaking any boundaries with this tried and tested layout. Thanks to the dependency on the CSS though it makes it relatively easy for me to keep the content, but change the looks. An excellent example of this idea in action is the CSS zen garden.

The Person
Stuart Gleave

Location
South East London, England. Or West London, depending on whether it's term time or not, which leads quite nicely into...

Education
Currently studying Multimedia, Design and Technology at Brunel university. It's a nice place when the sun is shining. Remember i live in England. I'll say no more.

The course is a nice change, for the first time i can really explore some of the areas i'm interested in and not know i should be writing an essay on something less interesting instead. I studied Electronics, Design Tech and Business Studies at A-Level, all of which i got B grades in. I was predicted ABC, so i guess that shows some, dissapoints others and is neglected by the remainder.

Personality
It's hard to stay objective when writing anything about yourself. It's difficult to stay humble or avoid feeling and sounding arrogant. I feel that way anyway.

I like designing things, i'm not without fault, but i think i'm better at it than some who are trying to make a living from it. I'm quite a sarcastic person, if you've read this whole page you might have picked up on it, i've been trying to keep it in check so far... honest.

I'm very interested in gadgets, things you don't need but want, and of course pushing those things to breaking point. If it's not broken, it's still got something to give. I don't want anybody trying to be clever and coming back to me with that quote while they've got me in a headlock. You know what i mean. Of course when it breaks it's not much use anymore, so you have to learn to quit while you're ahead.

Moving on, i like music, movies and games. Although they're all quite pricey considering what they are. Poor student here! Still, that doesn't stop me enjoying them. Don't have to pay every time you listen to the radio, watch TV (Well you do in a roundabout way, but it doesn't feel like it) or go to HMV to try out their demo units. Sometimes TV puts something good on. Usually only on sky that is. Socialising is important too. Can't stay locked up watching TV forever. Friendly game of pool or poker is a good way to relax, and lose alot of money that isn't real at the same time.

Anyway, i've said more than enough now, probably gotten a good idea of me, time to ramble off.

Where I want to be in 5 years
A glimpse into the future

I feel that my portfolio shows a high standard across a wide range of skills, all of which interest me. Because of this, I feel I have yet to find my particular niche in the wide world of multimedia, so while I cannot be as specific as some about my five year plan, it would be wrong to assume I am wandering without direction.

At the time of writing this statement, 5 years into the future is the start of 2011. My intention is to have completed a placement year and gone on to graduate my multimedia course at Brunel university. After graduation I plan to seek employment for a company, possibly the placement company, carrying out whatever tasks they see fit to assign me to the best of my ability. In the field I have chosen, if that is i chose to specialise in any single aspect of multimedia. I also hope to be able to find the time to do some freelance work, and may consider electing it as my sole source of income if it seems viable.

I am not being specific about the company, or even field I want to be working in at the start of 2011 for a particular reason. I have been told on numerous occasions, by several individuals that a placement year changes a student in several ways. Maturity, life goals and the career paths can all be heavily influenced by this placement. It is for this reason that I am not committing myself to a particular job title, company, or income; as all these things are choices I will make on completion of my course. I am still open minded about where I will be in five years time, and I refuse to tie myself down with these words while I am still growing as a designer and an individual.

All I can say for certain is that I hope to be financially secure, enjoying my work and giving all I can give to whatever I set my mind to.
